Alabaster Cockatiel Lamps
(inventory # DD-229 and DD-229b)

Alabaster, a unique soft stone mined in both Italy and Oklahoma, was used extensively by all levels of carvers to create utilitarian works of art from ancient times well thru the Victorian era and into modern times.  These are probably from the 1920's thru the 40's.  Though not a matching pair, they complement each other well.  The detail on each bird is good and includes the beak, the claws and the overall polish.  Each bird is highly polished, as opposed to the rougher texture of their perches.  The pair have green glass eyes, the single one has blue glass eyes.  The pink and peach areas may be part of the stone or could also be stained- both are possible.  Both lamps have been re-wired changing to an open wax candle with a flickering bulb (standard base) that works with a remote switch on the cords.  One repair was made to the column on the tall lamp.  An old break and repair is evident on the back side of the same lamp in the photo below.  Both lamps have minor chips.
